This book is a celebration of the history of the church and the school. It was the dream of Major Hubert Galton that a Roman Catholic Church be erected for the people of Warley. The church was built and opened in 1934. 2009 was the 75th anniversary of Saint Hubert‘s Church. It was the dream of the first priest, Father David Ford, that a school be built for the parish. Saint Hubert‘s RC primary school was open on the 20th March 1937 and admitted its first pupils on the 5th April 1937. "A Dream Comes True" tells the story of the church and school connection to the wealthy Galton family of Warley Abbey how the area used to be before the housing development of the 1930s provision of Catholic education in adjoining areas, life for the school children during the war years of 1939 to 1945, the school memories of many ex-pupils, photographs of pupils, teachers, school events, sports day, Holy Communion and much more. Available to purchase from Saint Hubert's school office, Saint Hubert’s Church piety stall. |
